Description
The course is an introduction to adolescent development for educators with a particular focus on how diversity influences development. In this course, students will examine how race, gender, culture, disability, and sexual orientation influence the cognitive, physical, linguistic, and socioemotional development of adolescents. A key feature of this course is that students will also learn research-based practices for fostering positive developmental outcomes for students from diverse backgrounds. There is a field component of this course which requires students to engage in virtual or simulated field experiences in high school classrooms on a regular basis.
