This course explores the unique aspects of outbreaks, epidemics, and pandemicsfrom a public health perspective. The course focuses on the history of infectious disease pandemics in the U.S. and around the globe; the exploration of practical and currently applied strategies for outbreaks events such as COVID-19 and Ebola; the challenges faced by public health and healthcare professionals during these events and how they prepare for and respond to a wide variety of infectious disease outbreaks; and the risk ramifications and tradeoffs of control and mitigation strategies used in infectious disease containment, and their effect on population health and well-being.
