Dance Education

This post-masters Dance Education Advanced Certificate Program will prepare candidates to teach dance in the K-12 public school setting. Students will obtain the knowledge and skills necessary for teaching dance by examining pedagogical theories applicable to dance instruction, conduct action research, explore strategies for differentiation, develop age and content appropriate dance curriculum, familiarize with dance standards and authentic assessment in dance, and develop a lifelong reflective teaching practice in dance. The Advanced Certificate in Dance Education will serve dance professionals in the field who have an MA or MFA in dance. These dancers have extensive content knowledge but most lack the educational training needed to teach in K-12 public schools dance programs. The Advanced Certificate in Dance Education will give these knowledgeable and skilled dance artists the opportunity to develop their teaching practice.
