Alternative Certification: Visual Arts Education (Trans-B)

In partnership with a variety of local and national organizations, the School of Education offers an Alternative Certification in Visual Arts Education to prepare candidates to teach students of diverse backgrounds, abilities and interests. This program was specifically designed for candidates who have majored in Art or Art Education and do not have NYS certification in Visual Art, but who have substantial experience in the field and seek an alternative route to certification. This program leads to New York State certification in Visual Arts PreK-12. Our programs offer participants the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in schools while enrolled in graduate coursework at Hunter College. The Visual Arts programs are run jointly by the Department of Art and Art History and by the School of Education.
